J.S. ROYALL STAINED GLASS STUDIO

After serving as an apprentice in leaded stained glass in Aspen, Colorado with Stephen Horowitz, I returned to Maine in 1973 to open my own studio in Kingfield, Maine. The majority of my work is custom designed windows for residential, commercial and religious sites. I joined SugarWood Gallery as a founding member in 2001 where I show one-of -a-kind pieces and continue to accept commissions.

I look upon stained glass as both art and craft, and like the painter, make use of light, color and design. My designs seem to grow out of an internal dialogue with the architecture while remaining sensitive to the inhabitants. In my study of other mediums such as metalsmithing painting,and journaling, I have found that each new discipline has influenced my glass work. The continuation of new insights remains important to my personal creative process.
